The language of the Bible needs to be understood within the language and culture of the early Hebrews. Sadly despite the pure intentions of the Bible translators, mixed messages about God's character were unintentionally written into the English Bible and caused devastating consequences in relation to the character of God. When the Bible translators wrote to an English audience, "God destroyed," "God said to destroy," "God sent destruction" etc the English speaking readers believe that to mean that God actively caused the destruction, but that is not what the Hebrew mind understood.
